Today Brandon and I spent some time winterizing our lawn equipment and got everything ready for winter. We met up today at my trailer to shut everything down correctly and add our fuel stabilizer to all of our hand held equipment.
Lot of you guys have used STABIL for ever, just like I have, so it was no surprise that we grabbed another bottle to put through the tanks. STABIL did send us out a few products which was nice of them, but regardless we have used STABIL in all of our stuff since the beginning.
The rule of thumb for my equipment is run it through the tanks and equipment for at least 2-3 minutes, and then shut the equipment off. I don't personally drain anything out of my tanks, or leave them or the engines bone dry.
I know some guys recommend doing that but, from what I understand that is pretty damaging to the internals of most engines. The seals and rings inside the engine are designed to be lubricated and if you burn everything out, those rings and seals can become brittle. We usually run premium through everything on our last batch of 50:1 mix, add STABIL, and then shut it down.
I was shocked when it hit me that we were actually just now getting to winterizing our lawn equipment. Generally speaking I am doing this mid to late November, sometime right after Thanksgiving. With how crazy this season has been, it's no surprise that we're barely getting to shutting things down by January.
