Overgrown lawn and La Nina whinging and moaning
Lawns are finally thinning out after being infested with Winter weeds here. However, there is still rain around and mowing overgrown grass is still annoyingly time-consuming. It is meant to be nearly Summer but thanks to La Nina we are still in Winter and it is nearly the end of Spring. Confused much? So is everyone else in what is a normally dry state most of the year. Never, ever has there been that much rain here!
Mowing overgrown lawn with Honda lawn mower
This small lawn usually takes about 45 minutes or less to trim edges, mow and clean up. The lawn has not received lawn care for 2 months. It took almost an hour and a half this time. It means less lawns get mowed when so much overgrown lawn mowing wastes time. One of the main reasons is that the #Honda lawn mower just refuses to bag wet grass clippings because of the small chute. That wastes time in having to rake and bag clippings. I did not film that part here but had to rake and bag a lot of clippings and then mow the lawn one more time in mulch mode.

This video shows a couple of ways for how to mow a lawn. I split the job into two parts for the purpose of filming and experimenting with the way in which I went about mowing the lawn.
Trimming lawn edges and then cutting grass going to seed with the #Husqvarna bent shaft string trimmer was the first step before then mowing the lawn. I then show the Honda lawn mower cutting grass in the other half of this small lawn. I then cleaned up loose clumps of grass with the #Makita leaf blower.

This overgrown lawn transformation looks dry and scalped in the end but there is still a bit of height left on it. You could just about lawn bowls or croquet on it. You really cannot scalp a lawn with the Honda lawn mower because it cannot go any lower than 1 inch. My other mower can be lowered a bit more and that can scalp lawns easily. A bit of rain and this lawn will turn green again. Some lawn care with weed treatment would help too and then some fertilizer but now is not the time of year for that.
