I noticed this overgrown property as I was driving by and so I decided to stop and take a look. I noticed the neighbour of this property was out front smoking and before knocking on the door I asked the neighbour if he knew if anyone was currently living in the property and he advised that he didn’t know. So I walked over and knocked on the door, unfortunately to no answer. I did a quick scan of the property and peeked over the fence from the side pathway to see the state of the backyard. As I walked over to get back into my ute, the neighbour approached me very aggressively and started screaming at me asking what I was doing and why was I looking around the property. I tried to explain to him that I just wanted to see if the people living in the property would like my help with their lawn but he was very irate. He continued screaming and was coming at me very aggressively. I apologised and kept trying to explain to him but he wouldn’t hear a word I was saying, so I just jumped into my ute and drove off. Looking back at it from a different perspective, he simply was a neighbour looking out for the people living in the property I was looking at. I’m someone he hasn’t seen before, looking around someone else’s property while no one was home so I can definitely understand how that must have looked to him. I do not condone violence in any way, shape or form but I do applaud him for being a good neighbour and looking out.
I came back to this property a few days later, knocked on the door and again no answer. The other neighbour happen to be outside and so I asked if he knew if anyone was living there and if he knew them in which he advised that he did. I explained to him what I do and that I was wanting to see if the people living in the property would like my help and he was very nice and said that he would love it if I did help them and offered to take my card and pass it along to them when they got home.
Few days later I received a text message from the residents living in the property and they gladly accepted my help.
