Lawn maintenance tips from Brazil. Is there a major difference? Do they know something we don't? In todays video I travel to brazil to find out.

I met with Denisson in Maceio Brazil who is the professional from a plant nursery called Eu Planto.

Eu Planto is a regional seller / distributor of a sod called Emerald Zoysia. Zoysia grass is the primary grass of the region. What I wanted to find out is what they do to maintain new and or existing grass in the region. It came down to these 7 things;
1. Use of dolamitic lime. The regional soil has plenty of nutrients but sits on the acidic side. Lime helps bump up the PH.
2. Starter Fertilizer - recommended a 10.10.10
3. No mowing for 30 days after the sod goes down
4. Regular Maintenance fertilizer treatments. This is where things got interesting. For maintenanence fertilizer it was recommended to do a 10.10.10. But if the grass is yellowing it is recommended to push some urea / 46.0.0 for some quick growth
5. Turf insect control. Brazilians are not ones who do preventive care. When they have bugs its recommended to use an insecticide made of deltamethrin to help quickly resolve the issue.
6. Fungus control. Once again the brazilians of this region were not big on preventive care. Once the lawn has a fungus they recommended a fungicide similar to those we find in the united states of america.
7. Weed Control. Use of selective herbicides are best. Herbicides were very similar to those found in the united states of america. Both non-selective and selective herbicides were available.

Thanks for tuning in! I specialize in solving lawn problems and implementing strategies to fix lawn problems. Weather you have crabgrass that's not dying, too much thatch, lawn fungus, over watering problems or an ugly lawn there's not a lawn problem I can't solve.
