So the new place I have has a terrible lawn!!
It is Santa Ana couch which is a very popular couch in Australia and very similar in characteristics to TifTuf.
I had TifTuf at my old house and it was brilliant. Lawn Solutions Australia offered it to me again and while that is tempting, I think rescuing what I have will be interesting for a lot of people as it will be the situation they have and doing a full landscape might be too expensive to do.
I certainly have some hard miles ahead of me fixing this lawn.
The priority to fixing a lawn is fixing the issues that are robbing the lawn from its condition, first. So in my case it is weeds, other grasses and soil condition.
The lawn is not in great nick. Full of weeds, primarily bindii, and other broadleaf weeds. I use a post emergent herbicide by Turf Culture to tackle those.
This lawn has a mix of common couch, rye, native and unfortunately the ever invasive kikuyu. These treatments will be featured in future vids but basically glyphosate (round up) will be the major part of my plan and also the use of Monument by Sygenta.
I have impoverished soil. It is so bad. Although it is well into autumn, I have ordered some sandy loam. There is still some active growth and I reckon I will be able to get some recovery going after a top dress. The benefit of sandy loam is that it has some nutrients which will obviously help the lawn and this soil type levels quite well.
So this vid is filmed on day 1 of getting to fix this lawn. There will be other vids, week by week, to show you the progress. There is no doubt with winter coming (and hence lawn dormancy) that this will be a slow process till next spring but at least in the start of spring I'll be Abe to hit the ground running and get a good repair.
