Today I headed over to Kelley and Sons Trailers, where I was informed of some rough news about the condition of our trailer axles. Long story short, we will be out $2,300 to repair and get this trailer back on the road.
What happened is we've been overloading the axles, which are rated for only 7,000 lbs. As you guys know, we run multiple mowers and equipment in there, putting us over the limit by around 1,000 lbs, give or take.
The solution is either a) buy new axles and reduce our weight where possible, b) upgrade to 5,200 lbs axles with a retrofit (costly), or c) order a new 10K Landscape Pro series trailer for $14k. My knee-jerk reaction is to slap a band-aid on this deal for now, get the new axles, and keep our trailer weight in check.
