In a nutshell, soil pH is how well the soil can hang on to the right amount of elements it needs for certain plants. It's all about balance. Bacteria will show up with a higher pH and fungi at a lower pH. So it is no surprise when soil pH is between 6 and 7, you tend to not really have any problems.
