Late spring and early autumn are considered to be the two best times to scarify your lawn, dew to both the weather and the conditions of the ground.
The ground is warm and damp and this aids recovery
I prefer Autumn as it has longer to recover and it's a great chance to seed the lawn especially if you want a thicker lawn next year
