Ginja's spring lawn care fertilization. 2019 Spring lawn care step 1 This is My Lawn
This is My Lawn 2019 E1
Todays focus is getting the soil microbes moving and in return getting the grass to grow.
Focusing on the right source of nitrogen is key. My soil temps are hovering between 48 and 51 degrees.
Our three sources of Nitrogen are;
Ammonium
Nitrate
Urea
I'm avoiding use of urea because the bacteria that breaks it down doesn't manifest as much in colder soil temps. I'm using an ammonium sulfate because my ph sits around a 7.5. this will decrease ph temporarily and cause the grass to grow. The soil will also experience some temperature rise which will also help the grass to grow.
The product I chose is by simplot, Nitro King. It's a 21.2.4 with 2% iron.
I also choose a soil conditioner made of gypsum soil and humates. Increasing the carbon and introducing calcium will help soil microbe activity, water retention, and oxygen transfer through the soil. The calcium will also help hold the clay molecules open and condition the soil.
I felt the phosphorus levels in the mix were too low so I also used a small amount of 12.12.12 to boost the K levels.
