The second main step to fixing a lawn in the early Spring is to kill off weeds that germinated in the late Fall or Winter and are now growing in the month of April. For most people, these weeds are not the weeds that Spring pre-emergent products prevent so they have to be killed off now before they go to seed.
There are lots of different products you could use to get this job done but in this video, we used Triad Select, a concentrated weed killer that we were able to mix with a surfactant for a better kill rate in the early Spring when temperatures are lower.
Alternatives to Triad Select would be any over-the-counter product sold at a local big box store that uses a mixture of 2, 4D and a few others in their active ingredient list. I've used Spectracide in my lawn as well and that would fit the bill.
Any tank sprayer will do for this step however I recommend most people to invest in a battery sprayer for use in the lawn. I use the Petra Tools 3-gallon sprayer usually although in this video we used my older Field King pump sprayer which is cheaper.
