In early Spring many lawns look extremely thin or patchy. Some of these lawns will recover on their own without the help of seed but the really thin lawns can easily be fixed with a bit of annual rye grass seed...so long as the lawn owner expects to apply a weed killer in late May and then overseed a permanent (perennial) grass seed into the lawn in late July after the annual rye starts dying off.
