In this video I give some of my personal tips to get your yard ready for summer. Very simple, mowing height, fertilizer choice and water. Very basic but the main keys to getting your yard prepped and through the heat of the summer.
We want to raise our height of cut up so that our grass blades have more surface area and are able to retain more moisture. Typically, the taller the grass blade, the deeper the roots.
We want a fertilizer with potassium. Potassium is going to help our grass handle the stress that comes with the heat and drought of summer. We are going with a lower rate of 1/3 to 1/2 pound of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. We don't want too much nitrogen because we don't want to push a lot of top growth at this time.
Water! If you are choosing to water, get 1/2 inch of water on the lawn 2-3 times per week.
It's that simple.
