What about you! Before we begin, I would like to say I am incredibly grateful to everyone that watches my videos and the community we have all built around the channel. After last year, I didn’t think we could top it. This year I had you lot drilling your lawns, making your own tools to drag in topdressing, the channel was featured on the creator on the rise, that was a little surreal, we sold some tee shirts and all the profits is going to NHS charities together and painted our lawns blue (well maybe not that one) My all-time favourite video is; How to stripe a lawn for Free | DIY with no ROLLER It’s my all-time favourite video as I did it with my dad Chris (who is 77), who can often be seen in a cameo role in a few of the other videos. (We also have my dad to thank for the subtitles, he does the subtitles on every video) Not sure about my favourite video from this year, I always like going to the golf courses to film. Both Clandeboye and Belvoir are in the top ten golf courses in Northern Ireland. So, we are learning from the best. (Big thanks to both Terry Crawford and Aaron Small for making this possible)
Before I started Premier Lawns, I was a greenkeeper for 20 years. With the last 8 of those years spent at Clandeboye. I know it’s a fair niche audience that enjoys the golf course videos, though I take the methods used in professional sports turf and break those down to show you how to improve your own lawn. I’m hoping that we can expand on the professional sports turf videos and visit non-golf venues in the future. Watch this space.
Editing
I don’t compare myself to other channels, I just try and make my own videos as good as I can Before starting YouTube, I had no idea how to make videos. Still learning, each video gets just a little better than the one before it. (I hope)
Since the early days, I added my subscriber count into the video, I never expected to be adding 10k, let alone 44k subscribers to any video! It’s just a little fun thing I do for myself
Most of my videos take around 8 hours to edit, some can take longer.
Filming can be slow, the ones where I film at my own lawn - it’s not my lawn btw, it’s my family home (I don’t have a lawn!) these videos usually take between 4-8 hours to film. Often stuff needs re-done. I live 10 miles up the road…
If I’m doing a job at a client’s property, often a half-day job will take a full day if we are filming. I spend around 16 hours a week making the videos, dreaming up new ideas, answering comments etc. The project - The BEST way to grow grass from seed We killed off part of the field and sowed it out and tested different coverings were the biggest project I have ever done, it was a monster to film and edit. We filmed that over 30 days there hours and hours of footage.
